NOVEMBER 5th - DARSHAN - SONGS FROM THE VOID: 8:30p.m.

Basya Schechter, Eden Pearlstein,  Yoshie Fruchter Shai Wetzer, MIcha Gilad & Guests, Mathias kunzli, Jessica Lurie

Darshan is a kaleidoscopic collaboration between world-soul singer Basya Schechter (Pharaoh's Daughter) and polymathic poet and rapper Eden Pearlstein (ePRHYME). Breathing new life into ancient Hebrew and Aramaic texts through a combination of Poetic/Rap Commentary and Musical Midrash, Darshan samples, remixes, and creatively transforms mystical Jewish teachings and prayers into a truly unique form of Sacred Pop Art. "Songs from the Void," their latest project takes the radically creative teachings of Hasidic master Rebbe Nachman—no stranger to doubt, depression, fear and insecurity—and transforms them into "spiritual sheet music" for these tumultuous times.

NOVEMBER 6th - ITZIK MANGER'S KHUMESH LIDER W AVI FOX ROSEN: 830p.m.

Basya Schechter, Avi Fox-Rosen, Yoshie Fruchter, Shai Wetzer, Chaia Berman Peters, Eleonore Weill

Basya and Avi have reimagined Yiddish poet Itzik Manger's modernist masterpiece, the Khumesh Lider, bringing its humor, heartbreak, and irreverent wisdom to a new musical form. It is a  tragicomic retellings of Bible stories, from  Eastern European Yiddish poet Itzik Manger’s 20th century collection of Genesis poetic satire.  Characters we know and love like Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah are plucked out of Canaan and set in interwar Eastern Europe. Hasidim, Turks, Egyptians, and Canaanites collide in the mythical geography Manger creates. The music weaves together a contemporary earthy ironic and tender song-craft with theater, pop, and world music influences, arranged with lush vocal harmonies.

NOVEMBER 7th MEG OKURA - 8:30p.m.

Violinist and composer Meg Okura joins pianist Angelica Sanchez and saxophonist Sam Newsome for an evening of fearless improvisation at The Stone. Formed especially for this evening, the trio explores truth, freedom and presence through spontaneous interplay that balances intensity with moments of stillness and grace. The set will be recorded live, capturing the electricity of real-time creation. The night concludes with Basya Schechter whose voice brings a soulful spiritual close - welcoming the peace of Shabbat.

NOVEMBER 8th - KABBALAH AVANTE GARDE KIRTAN - 8:30pm

Basya Schechter, Jessica Lurie Deep Singh, Laura Wolfe, and guests.

The residency culminates in an  Aramaic kirtan chanting experience.  The Zohar, in English the Book of Splendor, has been described as both the most important literary work of Kabbalah and as a mysterious and inaccessible sacred subtext of Torah. It carries within its words spiritual secrets from mystics who went into trances.   The audience will be invited to chant a few of these core revelations in their original Aramaic, and musicians will break through and deepen the trance with improvisation.
